Advisors Asset Management Blue Chip Covered Call Portfolio Eclipses $1 Billion Sales Milestone
Milestone underscores growing demand for income-oriented equity strategies amid evolving market conditions
MONUMENT, COLO. — March 11, 2026 — Advisors Asset Management (AAM), a leading investment solutions provider, today announced that its Blue Chip Covered Call Portfolio has surpassed $1 billion in sales, marking a significant milestone for the firm’s unit investment trust (UIT) platform and reflecting strong demand for income-focused equity strategies.
The Blue Chip Covered Call Portfolio is a UIT that seeks to provide income and limited capital appreciation by investing in a portfolio primarily consisting of common stock of companies considered to be “blue chip” companies and U.S. Treasury obligations. The strategy to be followed by the trust is a covered call option writing strategy.
“We are proud to see the Blue Chip Covered Call Portfolio reach the $1 billion mark,” said Jacob Johnston, Deputy Chief Investment Officer, AAM. “In an environment where forward returns may be more muted and volatility remains elevated, covered call strategies can offer a compelling balance of income generation, conservative equity exposure, and risk management. Financial professionals are increasingly looking for solutions that are focused on the long term while potentially managing downside risk, and this portfolio is designed with that objective in mind.”
The portfolio’s covering securities are selected through a disciplined process beginning with well-known domestic companies with market capitalizations exceeding $5 billion. From that universe, AAM eliminates companies it does not consider market leaders with strong reputations for high-quality goods and services. Final selections are based on sector exposure, financial strength, historical and projected earnings and revenue growth, and current valuation metrics.
Covered call strategies may offer several advantages in today’s market environment, including the potential to generate income as a complement or alternative to traditional credit or duration exposure. They can also help supplement total returns, particularly in gently rising or sideways markets, while seeking to reduce overall equity volatility through a more conservative equity framework.
“As financial professionals seek efficient, transparent income solutions, we’ve seen growing interest in covered call strategies delivered through the UIT structure,” said Richard Stewart, Executive Vice President, UIT Product Manager, AAM. “The UIT vehicle offers a known and transparent portfolio, a convenient single-ticket solution, quarterly distributions if any, and daily liquidity.”
With equity valuations elevated and volatility dynamics shifting, AAM believes covered call strategies may play an increasingly important role in diversified portfolios by balancing income generation with participation in equity markets, while seeking to temper downside risk.
