The I’s Have It
The last year had a bit of everything for everyone. It was a microcosm of what the markets, economies and politics have seen over the last 10 years packed into 12 months.
Upon reflection, the breadth of the range of reactions and actual movements will be recalled as one of the more pivotal points in this generation. The tamest events had to do with the economy and, in general, the markets, as their recovery from one of the worst starts in history threw comparisons out the window. While the most violent areas left the world in a swirling wind of news, fake news, opinions, assumptions and included those areas where subjectivity and vagueness ruled and investors of all types were left to interpret the tea leaves rather than “plug-and-play.”
From an investment perspective, the markets have transformed to a level where we seek to conduct analysis utilizing peak quantitative data to determine the probability for the “best” investment returns versus risks. In contrast, “plug-and-play” implies that one can input certain information and have a risk profile or return profile come out the other end.
